MHSAA/MBA State Marching Contest - 28 Oct 06

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

IMGA3144
In a hard fought battle, The Pride was edged out by Stone High School and came home with the second place trophy in the MHSAA/MBA State Marching Competition. Although disappointed with the results, the staff and students found solace in the knowledge that they had “left it all on the field”, as they presented a near flawless execution of what was arguably the toughest routine of the night. Despite the second place ranking among the thirty-nine 4A bands in the state, each band member’s superior determination, skill and spirit was evident in every step taken and every note played. Without a doubt, The Pride is still a cut above the rest!

Watch out 5A!! Go Pride!!

Scrip Card Fundraiser

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Do you buy gift cards to use as Christmas or birthday presents?
Do you buy gift cards for birthdays or holidays?
Do you eat out at restaurants such as O’Charley’s, Chilis, Red Lobster, Wendy’s, Quiznos, or Pizza Hut?
Do you shop at stores like J.C. Penny, Dillard’s, American Eagle, Lowe’s, Home Depot, The Gap and Shell?

Now you can buy gift cards for these and other merchants thru the DCHS Scrip Program. A percentage of each card goes into your child’s band account. Orders are due at the monthly booster meeting.

We’re pleased to share some exciting news about a new fund raising program for our organization. It’s called “scrip”, and it’s the fund raising program that works while you shop.

Scrip is simply a word that means “substitute money” in other words, scrip is gift certificates from national and local retailers. They’re the same gift certificates that you buy at the store. Many popular retailers participate in our scrip program including JCPenney, The Gap, Shell, Pizza Hut, Red Lobster and many, many others. For the complete list of participating retailers go to www.glscrip.com and click on Retailer List.

You’re probably asking yourself how these stores help us raise money. It’s simple — scrip participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to our organization at a discount. Member families like yours buy the certificates for full face value, they redeem them for full face value, and our school keeps the difference as revenue. And scrip is exciting, because everybody wins:

The retailer gets cash up front and repeat business

You get a powerful fund raising alternative that involves no selling Our school gets a regular source of revenue.

The beauty of scrip is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work. You earn money for YOUR CHILD’S BAND ACCOUNT without spending a single additional penny. Just spend your regular shopping dollars with scrip at the stores that participate in the scrip program! And scrip can be used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline and even dining out. To get onboard, just go to the Forms page and print out both the Scrip Enrollment Form and the Scrip Family Order Form. The Scrip Enrollment Form need only be filled out for your first order. Place all forms (Enrollment and/or Famliy Order) along with your check made out to DCS Scrip, in an envelope marked “Scrip Order” and place it in the box in Mr. Cox’s office. Order forms need to be turned in by the 30th of each month.

We’ll have someone at each Booster Meeting to represent our scrip program, and we urge you to attend. We’ll briefly go over all of facts about scrip, provide enrollment forms, and be available to answer your questions:

The DCHS Band scrip program promises to be a simple and effective fundraising program. Thanks for your support, and we’ll see you at our next meeting!
