BCS Trip Update No. 3
Monday, January 7th, 2008

IMG_1002 Long day. The students spent the morning rehearsing for the big halftime show. The mass band including all eight high schools and both university bands will provide the halftime entertainment at the BCS Championship Bowl. The event will be carried live on the local Fox affiliate, with the game itself starting at 7pm. The big news of the day came at the end of rehearsal when the results of the previous day’s competition were announced. Among the eight bands and two divisions, The Pride received top honors, being named grand champion of the Bowl Games of America field show competition. The band also took the caption awards for color guard, marching, percussion, and visual effects. The rest of the day was spent touring the French Quarter and shopping. The day was capped off with a lavish ball held at Mardi Gras World, where all of the Mardi Gras parade floats and costumes are designed, built and stored.

BCS Trip Update No. 2
Sunday, January 6th, 2008

IMG_0795 Day two started with a 6:00 am wakeup call followed by breakfast in the hotel lobby. A short bus trip across the Mississippi river took everyone to W. Jefferson High School where the BCS Bowl band competition was held. The Pride performed their 2007 halftime show, “Realizations”, in competition against 11 other high schools bands from around the country. Then it was back on the buses for a quick lunch at the downtown River Walk mall, the band then reformed with uniforms and instruments for two more public performances before hundreds of Ohio State and LSU fans in Jackson Square. The day’s activities were topped off with an evening of dinner and dancing on the riverboat Natchez, as she cruised up and down the mighty Mississippi. Stay tuned for day three.

BCS Trip Update No. 1
Friday, January 4th, 2008

IMGA5078 The Pride of Desoto Central Marching Band made the trip to ‘The Big Easy’ this afternoon for the first day of their BCS Bowl trip. After a short lunch stop in Jackson, The Pride arrived at their hotel in the Warehouse District of downtown New Orleans at 3:15pm. There was just enough time to get checked in and freshened up before soon departing for dinner at Michaul’s Cajun Restaurant. The meal included a selection of fine Louisiana quisine, and afterwards several band members ventured onto the dance floor as “Skeeter’s Cajun Band” played some familiar and not so familiar tunes. It didn’t matter what the music was, becaue the atmosphere was enough to ensure that everyone had a great time before returning to the hotel for the evening.
