Devin Burgess

Mr. Devin Burgess is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Platteville where he studied percussion performance with Joe Caploe and music education with Dr. Barry Ellis. While at Platteville he earned degrees in instrumental and general music education.

Devin has a multitude of experience as an educator from elementary to high school level. Some of his recent academic appointments include Wisconsin Dells School District where he taught high school band, middle school band, and world music. He most recently taught general music for the Fort Atkinson School District where he also worked with the marching band program.

The majority of Devin’s teaching experience involves the marching arts. He just finished his 3rd season as the front ensemble coordinator for the Oregon Marching and Athletic Arts Program where the flagship ensemble “Shadow Armada” has won the MACBDA Championship from 2008-2012 and has earned six consecutive percussion titles. Devin was also the front ensemble coordinator for the Shadow Indoor Percussion program from 2009-2012 which was recently promoted by WGI to percussion independent open. He served as percussion designer at Hempstead High School in Dubuque, Iowa from 2006-2009 where the 2007 percussion section earned numerous awards. Devin has also taught with Capital Sound Drum and Bugle Corps, Colts Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Warhawk Marching Band of UW-Whitewater.

Throughout his marching career he performed with Oregon High School Marching Band, Capital Sound Drum and Bugle Corps, Colts Drum and Bugle Corps, and Gateway Indoor Percussion.

Devin performed throughout eastern Iowa, southern Wisconsin, and northern Illinois. Some performance experience includes Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, Beloit-Janesville Symphony Orchestra, and the Rountree Ensemble. He is also a freelance arranger and composer.
