If you have not noticed, the web site is shiny and new. It may not look a lot different, but underneath it has been completely rewritten. Many hours have been spent to make this the best band site around. One of the biggest changes to our site this year is the Email Notification System. We have put in place a new package that will hopefully prove to be much more dependable. If you are a band parent or student, it is very important that you subscribe to the new email system. Even if you were on the list last year, you must subscribe again, you can unsubscribe at anytime. Take some time and look around the site and send feedback if you have it.

We are selling Boston Butts for the July 4th holiday. Quincy of Big Q Grillers is cooking the Boston Butts to tender perfection. The cost is $30 each and $15 will go into the student’s band account. Each Butt will average 7-8 pounds.

Have you ever wondered why it is called Boston Butt?

Boston Butt is a cut of pork that comes from the upper part of the shoulder from the front leg and may contain the blade bone. Smoked or barbecued Boston butt is found in the southern U.S.

It is said that in pre-revolutionary New England and into the Revolutionary War, some pork cuts (not those highly valued, or “high on the hog,” like loin and ham) were packed into casks or barrels (also known as “butts”) for storage and shipment. The way the hog shoulder was cut in the Boston area became known in other regions as “Boston butt”. The name “Boston butt” is not used in Boston but is used in other parts of the U.S.

Scrip is simply a way to raise funds for your child’s band account without having to sell anything! You buy gift cards through the Scrip program to any of the vendors listed on the www.shopwithscrip.com website and the rebate amount goes into your child’s band account. These are the same gift cards that you buy in the store. (Examples: Wal-Mart, Lowe’s, O’Charley’s, Red Lobster, Wendy’s, JC Penney, Starbuck’s, Subway, Bath & Body Works and many, many more!) Companies sell the gift cards to Great Lakes Scrip at a discounted amount and then they in turn pass along a portion of the discount only to non-profit organizations, like us, to raise money for our non-profit organization.

Program Rules & Guidelines:

1. Each family will be provided a unique customer ID number. This number must appear on all orders you submit to ensure your purchases are accurately recorded.

2. All certificate orders must be accompanied by cash or a check made payable to DCS Scrip. Or you can pay with PrestoPay thru ShopWithScrip. Scrip Certificate payments are not tax deductible because you receive dollar for dollar value.

3. Please add a $2.00 S&H fee per total family order.

4. If your check is returned because of non-sufficient funds (NSF), you will be charged a $20 fee payable to DCHS Band. After two NSF checks are tendered on your account, your scrip ordering privileges will be limited to cash only.

5. With each order you place, DCHS Band will provide a summary of your family’s purchases.

6. Scrip certificates are purchased on your behalf, and are not returnable.

7. When you pick up your scrip certificates, open your order and verify its accuracy. Your signature on the Order Pickup List indicates you have received your order in its entirety. In the unlikely event you should find a discrepancy in your scrip order, please contact the DCHS Band Scrip Program Coordinator within 7 days.

8. Scrip certificates are the same as cash, and should be handled accordingly. DCHS Band will not be responsible for certificates that are lost, stolen or misplaced while in your possession.

9. You must send us an email as stated on the next page or sign a WAIVER OF RESPONSIBILITY form stating it is alright for your child to pick up your gift cards before they will be released with your child. These forms will be kept on file, and DCHS Band accepts no responsibility for certificates delivered in this manner.
